Sol Phenduka shares how his daughter learned about his departure from Kaya FM
Media figure Sol Phenduka has disclosed that his recent dismissal from Kaya FM unexpectedly filtered down to his home, with his daughter in Grade 1 questioning whether he was “kicked out” after hearing the news from her peers.
The former Kaya 959 host took to X (formerly Twitter) to articulate the challenge of handling the implications of his public termination from a parental standpoint.
“Not my Grade 1 child asking whether I got kicked out at Kaya because her classmates told her I got ‘kicked out’. She already knew I no longer work there without telling her how or why. Mxim. I love my line of work, I just hate this part about it,” Sol wrote.
He expressed curiosity about how such matters are discussed among young children, asking: “I’m so curious about the conversations other parents have with their grade 1 kids and the tone used.”
The tweet garnered significant attention, provoking heartfelt responses and discussions on social media.

One individual remarked: “Those kids were definitely being told those things by their parents — there’s no way a Grade 1 learner watches news.”
Another user stated: “Did you tell her that it’s because you laughed when your friend said Minnie wa nkga? And that your employer doesn’t want to be associated with that?”
A third person commented: “Charity begins at home. Having adult conversations in front of kids is a no-no.”
Kaya FM confirmed in August 2025 that Sol Phenduka had been dismissed following a suspension that stemmed from alleged “misogynistic remarks” about actress Minnie Dlamini.
