South Africans are celebrating KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi following a significant development in DJ Sumbody’s murder case.
The cherished Amapiano artist was tragically shot in a targeted attack in November 2022.
MKHWANAZI COMMENDED AS BREAKTHROUGH ADVANCES MURDER INVESTIGATION
Since the shocking incident, there has been growing public frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation. However, on Monday afternoon, law enforcement officials apprehended four suspects in Gauteng in a coordinated operation linked to the murder.
Police reports indicate that three of the suspects functioned as hitmen, while the fourth is accused of orchestrating the attack that led to the DJ’s death.
Although Mkhwanazi is not directly leading the investigation, he suggested there was movement in the case during a briefing on July 6 that addressed multiple celebrity murder inquiries.
At that time, no arrests had been made, but Mkhwanazi indicated that suspects were being monitored and evidence was being collected. He pointed out that certain senior officials were actively undermining efforts to bring justice to protect drug-related criminal networks in South Africa.
Additionally, he stated that firearms seized in Gauteng have been scientifically linked to several murders in the entertainment sector dating back to 2021.

COURT APPEARANCES FOR SUSPECTS
The four suspects now face three murder charges related to the horrific incident that left South Africa in shock.
These charges pertain to the deaths of DJ Sumbody as well as his bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza, during the ambush in 2022. The suspects made a brief appearance at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, where the case was adjourned until July 29, 2025.
Authorities explained that the postponement is necessary to allow for further investigation and thorough validation of newly discovered information and forensic evidence.
