The Big Hash opens up about nearly quitting rap
South African rapper The Big Hash has sparked concern among fans after discussing his difficulties within the music industry.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), he shared that he is contemplating stepping back from music entirely.
“I’ll be very honest, I’m THIS close to giving up on music fr. ” he wrote, eliciting a strong response from the online community.
The rapper, known for achieving fame at a young age, reflected on his experiences and the hurdles he has encountered throughout his career.
“People forget I came into this industry young, but I been at this shit for so long. I’ve seen so many people and eras pass me by. I saw a comment this morning under my new song on YouTube that had me think deep. Bro said I’m talented but guys like me won’t get rich. Did he lie?”
Hash acknowledged past errors in his career, admitting that his early arrogance possibly alienated some supporters.
“I was super arrogant & big-headed when I was younger. Maybe that last part is still true (in a literal sense lol), any good will I had with people who supported me from the beginning, I messed up. I owe y’all an apology. Coz no matter how many dope records I make, niggas sleep.”
He emphasized his willingness to accept responsibility for his past decisions.
“I did that to myself. Fair enough. There were other things that were out of my control that got in the way too but I won’t mention those, this is me taking accountability for my own actions, not of those who hurt me. Don’t get me wrong, I wake up every day fighting for my dreams.”
In closing, Hash shared a thoughtful message for his fans.
“But that’s the thing right…are these all just dreams? Maybe it wasn’t meant for me. Maybe it is. Who knows? I’ll leave that part to y’all. I’ll drop the tape because I owe it to every single one of the people who’ve been with me through everything. Then we’ll see what happens. ❤️”
His candid remarks prompted a wave of encouragement from his supporters, urging him to persevere.
One individual commented: “If you are really passionate about your craft, you won’t. Rome wasn’t built in one day, be patient.”
Another remarked: “Everyone’s time will come, you might be thinking of giving up just when your career is about to blast off to unprecedented heights. I say, keep on going. I don’t know an artist who commands the mic like you do, this thing is within you.”
However, not all feedback was positive; rapper Usimamane offered a more pointed critique, stating: “At 25 it’s a wrap gang.”
