Renowned producer, composer, and cultural envoy Lebo M – the Grammy Award-winning, Oscar-nominated musical figure behind Disney’s The Lion King – will lead the official event launching Honouring Joseph Shabalala at Nu Metro VIP Cinemas, Ballito Junction, in collaboration with Ukhozi FM.
The event will unveil the world premiere of Imisebenzi, the newest music video by Nkosinathi Shabalala, which pays homage to the late Joseph Shabalala, the founder of the iconic Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Attendees will enjoy drinks from 6:30 PM, with the program commencing at 7:15 PM.
Under the guidance of Lebo M, this occasion serves as a heartfelt tribute to Shabalala, whose musical contributions brought South African sounds from the streets of Ladysmith to the stages of the world, achieving several Grammy Awards and spreading the essence of isicathamiya globally. Through Honouring Joseph Shabalala, Lebo M aims to honor Shabalala’s lasting impact while nurturing African traditions through music, narratives, and performances.
After the launch, the Heritage Day Tribute Concert is set for Wednesday, 24 September 2025, at the Durban Playhouse, which will showcase performances by prominent South African artists, including Big Zulu, Khuzani, Blaq Diamond, Sjava, Boity Thulo, Mnqobi Yazo, Naima Kay, Thee Legacy, and Nkosinathi Shabalala, hosted by Minnie Dlamini.
