Remembering Volo Da Saint: A Tragic Loss for Eastern Cape's Creative Heart
His family released a statement on Monday expressing their sorrow and asking for privacy as they process this shock.
“As we process and mourn his death, we request your prayers, consideration, and space. We know Volo shared his life with many people: friends, supporters, and fans,” they shared.
Numerous tributes have surfaced on social media, with many paying homage to his significant role in shaping the creative scene in the Eastern Cape.
Betusile Mcinga, a Metro FM award-winning artist, highlighted that Volo Da Saint was much more than just an entertainer, referring to him as a source of pride for the province due to his philanthropic work and community-focused partnerships.
DJ Mist SA, a close friend, recalled Volo as an influential figure, courageous and dedicated to making a difference.
“You lived a full and purposeful life. You were a visionary and an exceptional risk-taker,” he wrote.
DJ Mist emphasized that it was rare to see someone invest so deeply in a rural community, recognizing the financial risks while commending Volo’s commitment to uplifting Bizana.
“But you were determined to put Bizana on the national map, and you succeeded.”
He also acknowledged Volo’s role in attracting big-name artists such as AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Kabza De Small, and DJ Maphorisa to the area.
Through his initiatives, Volo generated over 100 temporary jobs annually, enhancing tourism and revitalizing Bizana’s economy.
His reach extended beyond simply hosting performers. Volo Da Saint was instrumental in organizing the yearly OR Tambo Homage Event, a highlight of December that had become one of the most awaited entertainment events in the region.
The upcoming edition, planned for December 23 and featuring Dlala Thukzin, Kelvin Momo, Dumi Mkokstad, Mafikizolo, and Naledi Aphiwe, will now serve as part of his lasting legacy.
Ongoing tributes reflect the magnitude of his contributions and the gap his absence creates.
“Your name will forever hold a prominent place in the historical records of both Bizana and the Eastern Cape,” DJ Mist SA remarked.
“Beyond friendship, we shared immense respect for each other, both professionally and artistically.”
