Last night, social media exploded with activity after Usimamane posted what seems to be details of his forthcoming album. The authenticity of this tracklist may be uncertain, but that’s not the main focus. Assuming it is authentic, it’s noteworthy how swiftly individuals began to question why he would candidly share his thoughts on South African hip-hop commentators.
We often overlook that these individuals are artists, and their primary mode of communication has always been music. The essence of hip-hop lies in its ability to convey feelings. I actually admire Usimamane for opting to utilize the studio as his platform for expression, regardless of whether this moment is a deliberate provocation, a tactical move, or simply a method of gaining attention. There is a need for more artists to tackle issues through their music rather than through podcasts and social media discussions.
