\u2018John Vuli Gate\u2019 hitmakers allegedly kidnapped in Ethiopia<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mapara A Jazz members Mano \u201cMan Malaya\u201d Nephawe and Leonard \u201cLenny\u201d Malatji have returned to South Africa following a distressing experience in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

The duo, rising stars from Tshwane recognized for their popular song John Vuli Gate<\/em>, reportedly faced a severe situation while in Addis Ababa for a performance.<\/p>\n

They traveled to take part in the Ade Music Fest at Kana Warehouse on October 25.<\/p>\n

However, after a night out, their safety was compromised when they vanished.<\/p>\n

On the morning of Sunday, October 27, they alarmed fans with a troubling message on social media: \u201cCan someone help us? We are kidnapped in Ethiopia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later that day, they provided an uplifting update: \u201cWe\u2019re finally home! We\u2019re grateful to say that we are safely back home. We want to sincerely thank everyone who showed us love, concern, and support during this difficult time, from both Ethiopia and South Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

While reports indicate that Nephawe suffered physical abuse, the pair has chosen not to elaborate on the specifics of their experience. Since returning, they have remained quiet, likely reflecting on the events.<\/p>\n

According to South Africa\u2019s Head of Public Diplomacy, Clayson Monyela, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) first became aware of the situation through social media reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe matter was not reported to DIRCO. We were made aware of it on posts on social media. Then we jumped to try and make contact with the embassy. When we reached out, there was no case of a kidnapping that had been reported,\u201d Monyela detailed.<\/p>\n

He noted that once officials confirmed the artists’ return to South Africa, it became a local law enforcement issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause they are home safe, the matter now becomes a SAPS matter. Police and legal authorities will meet with the musicians to investigate and find out what happened,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Monyela added that had the situation been different and they still held in Ethiopia, the South African Embassy would have taken immediate action.<\/p>\n

For now, fans are simply relieved that Mapara A Jazz has returned safely from a frightening experience abroad.<\/p>\n
