The sense of entitlement. Hm? Grammys are not your mother\u2019s jumping castle party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrammys are not Nigerian music awards. The level of entitlement thinking that only Nigerians that are nominated are qualified [to win],\u201d Mhlongo continues.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Somizi responds Nigerians who say Tyla wasn't supposed to win Grammy \" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_h3AjgNQuCM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Mhlongo was responding to social media posts by some Nigerians, who criticized Tyla\u2019s victory, claiming that the three Nigerian artists in her category were more deserving of the award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think what hurts the most is that it\u2019s a girl, and it\u2019s not a Nigerian lady\u2026 It\u2019s a South African woman, who was nominated amongst three Nigerians, if I\u2019m not mistaken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow you\u2019re making us a laughing stock to the world\u2026 look at these Africans. We\u2019re giving them a piece of the pie, and now they\u2019re fighting over it,\u201d Mhlongo expresses.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-negativity-is-dimming-davido-s-stardom\">The negativity is dimming Davido\u2019s stardom<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cAnd you\u2019re taking away Davido\u2019s credibility, his superstardom. Davido is a superstar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavido is too much of a superstar to be caught up in this [inaudible]. Everyone in that category deserved to win. Trust me, I doubt there was gonna be a South African who was going to complain if any of the people who were nominated won. But South Africans were going to be provoked if a Nigerian won. Yo! We were not gonna hear the end of it,\u201d Mhlongo exclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStop it. And sadly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@captaincollins2\/video\/7602748879020363029?is_from_webapp=1&#038;sender_device=pc&#038;web_id=7555884581644568071\" id=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@captaincollins2\/video\/7602748879020363029?is_from_webapp=1&#038;sender_device=pc&#038;web_id=7555884581644568071\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">it\u2019s not all Nigerians<\/a>. It\u2019s just these [inaudible]. And what\u2019s done is done. Tyla has two, and she can still get three.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-facts-play-a-role-with-the-grammys-not-emotions-mhlongo\">Facts play a role with the Grammys, not emotions: Mhlongo<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cGrammys don\u2019t care about your emotions. It\u2019s facts. And you know the facts, in terms of that song\u2026 numbers don\u2019t lie,\u201d declared Mhlongo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStop taking away the superstardom of all the other artists that were nominated, as if only Davido deserved to win\u2026 Every artist who was there deserved to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then lastly, I wanna correct you again\u2026 that category was not an Afrobeats category. It was the best African performance. And stop saying Tyla\u2019s music is not African. Who the f%&amp;$ do you think you are? She\u2019s South African, and we South Africans enjoy and resonate (with) the music,\u201d Mhlongo concluded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStop thinking you are the gods of music.
