Mama Joy Chauke<\/a>, South Africa’s favorite superfan, has sought help to attend the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, her request was rejected by Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie.<\/p>\n

<p.On social media platform X, Mama Joy<\/a> expressed her excitement over Bafana Bafana\u2019s successful qualification for the tournament and appealed to FIFA president Gianni Infantino for support in funding her trip.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to be there\u2026 I am asking any help from anyone to help me attend World Cup 2026,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

In response, McKenzie suggested that her partner should cover the travel expenses instead.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got you a husband, my sister, let him pay for the love of his life\u2026 the Euro is very strong\u2026 let him pay, Sista Joy,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n

Later, McKenzie defended his viewpoint, asserting that the government will not finance superfans’ trips.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy should I lie using diplomatic language. Our policy is not under review\u2026 We are not going to pay for superfans as a department. It\u2019s unfair because SA is full of superfans.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also dismissed the notion that fans could put forward sponsorship proposals to the department.<\/p>\n

Mama Joy has been a constant presence at various sports events, well-known for her colorful outfits and enthusiastic support for South African teams.<\/p>\n

Despite being admired, questions often arise regarding the funding of her travel expenses.<\/p>\n

McKenzie\u2019s remarks reflect a more rigid stance on public expenditure, emphasizing the importance of development and infrastructure over supporting individual fans, no matter their prominence.<\/p>\n
