DJ Faith Makubung, also known as DJ Fae Fae, is more than just a DJ and radio host; she is making an impact on the cultural landscape.<\/p>\n

As the driving force behind YFM\u2019s \u201cAll Girls On Deck\u201d (AGOD), Makubung has established a significant platform aimed at highlighting female DJs in an industry that often undermines their skills.<\/p>\n

In a recent discussion with IOL, she shared insights on her journey, focusing on personal development and the broader significance of her mission.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are constantly trying to say female DJs in South Africa are just showing off their bodies\u2026 but when they come to my show, they actually hear these girls playing,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Since its launch, AGOD has been committed to a clear vision. Initially, the mix show was not exclusive to women; however, as it progressed, a deliberate decision was made to highlight female DJs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to open up the opportunity because there are so many female DJs who deserve the platform,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

This choice has proven beneficial. The program began as a late-night mix show and has evolved into a recognized venue where female DJs from diverse backgrounds can share their skills.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not age-restricted. You can be 40 and still come in and play an epic set,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

For Makubung, however, radio is merely a starting point. She aims to extend AGOD\u2019s reach beyond the airwaves into live performances.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want South Africa to see these DJs live, not just judge them from social media clips.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Makubung\u2019s ambitions extend off the air as well. She is currently pursuing studies in music production, with the intention of mastering the craft prior to releasing her own tracks.<\/p>\n

\u201c If I’m going to release music, I need to understand what I’m releasing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201c I don\u2019t want to be in a position where people take advantage of me because I don\u2019t know the business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her educational pursuits stem from a desire for autonomy and ownership, a recurring theme throughout her career.<\/p>\n

\u201c I\u2019m the only girl in my class, and I\u2019m there to prove I deserve to be there,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n

Additionally, she is venturing into the beauty industry, concentrating on wig-making, illustrating her innovative approach to sustainability within entertainment.<\/p>\n

\u201c I\u2019m not going to be on stage forever. I had to think about how I make money beyond DJing,\u201d she clarified.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While she is already accepting orders, she is deliberately postponing a full launch until all aspects meet her quality standards.<\/p>\n

\u201c I\u2019m not about to launch something half-done. I want it to be perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Managing multiple projects requires her to be disciplined, a skill she acknowledges takes effort.<\/p>\n

\u201c I write everything down and prioritise, and I\u2019ve had to learn how to say no.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Makubung, success is not determined by outside recognition but by her own aspirations and the realization of her goals.<\/p>\n

\u201c Success is looking at my vision board and realizing I actually achieved those things,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n

\u201c I\u2019m big on manifestation. You have to see it, think about it, live it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As \u201cAll Girls On Deck\u201d continues its upward trajectory and her personal brand expands across various sectors, it is evident that DJ Fae Fae is not just creating pathways for herself, but also for many women in music.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe girls want to prove everybody wrong, and we\u2019re going to continue to dominate,\u201d she asserts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
