Darren Keet, the goalkeeper for Durban City, has shared the underlying reasons for his choice to retire following the 2025\/26 season, with family considerations being a significant factor.<\/p>\n
The experienced goalkeeper announced that he would end his playing career after contributing to Durban City’s victory in the Nedbank Cup final, where they triumphed over TS Galaxy with a score of 2-1 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.<\/p>\n
In his remarks after the match, Keet emphasized that his retirement decision extends beyond his career in football, focusing on family matters.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not hinting at anything, I\u2019m calling it quits at the end of this season,\u201d said Keet. \u201cThis Nedbank Cup was my first, and it will be my last.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old disclosed that his wife played a crucial role in his decision, expressing her frustration with the separation caused by his commitments in Durban while she and their children remained in Cape Town.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy wife told me she\u2019s not doing another year like this,\u201d he noted. \u201cShe\u2019s in Cape Town with the kids while I\u2019m here on my own. That\u2019s when I knew it was time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Keet shared that he and his wife determined late last year that it was important to focus on family and relocate back to Cape Town permanently.<\/p>\n
\u201cI started preparing for life after football, looking into coaching, and everything is in place,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
The cup final, which brought an emotional victory, became an ideal farewell, as Keet celebrated with his family, including his wife, children, and parents in Polokwane.<\/p>\n
