Nandi Madida marked Apraxia Awareness Day on May 14 by sharing an insightful message about her daughter, advocating for increased awareness of autism and communication disorders.<\/p>\n

The artist and media figure discussed the challenges associated with apraxia, a neurological condition that hinders the brain’s ability to direct muscle movements necessary for speech and specific physical tasks.<\/p>\n

In her remarks, Madida emphasized that apraxia should not be confused with a deficiency in intelligence or comprehension.<\/p>\n

Honoring her daughter, Nefertiti, affectionately called Nefi, she expressed admiration for her child’s resilience and the eventual positive influence she believes Nefi will have on others in similar situations.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday is Apraxia Awareness Day\u2026 I always tell my sweet daughter Nefi, Nefertiti, that she is a force and that one day she will advocate for many autistic people. She will help bring clarity, compassion, and understanding to a community that is so often misunderstood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Madida noted that individuals with apraxia may find it difficult to express themselves verbally, even though they understand their surroundings completely.<\/p>\n

She called on society to refrain from making assumptions and to interact with those affected with patience and kindness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not an intelligence issue. This is not a hearing issue. This is not a lack of understanding,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

The star also underscored the significance of acknowledging various forms of communication, reminding everyone that spoken language is not the sole avenue for expression.<\/p>\n

Using this awareness day to promote kindness, Madida urged the community to foster more inclusive environments for individuals with autism and similar conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Apraxia Awareness Day, may we listen differently, support more intentionally, and remember that every voice matters, whether spoken or not.\u201d<\/p>\n
