The last episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/em> was broadcast on Thursday evening, concluding an impressive eleven-year journey of the popular late-night program.<\/p>\n

On stage, Stephen Colbert, who celebrated his 62nd birthday on May 13, was accompanied by his final guest, Paul McCartney, who performed The Beatles\u2019<\/em> timeless song Hello, Goodbye<\/em> as the show came to a close.<\/p>\n

The program was cancelled after a successful eleven-year tenure on CBS, with Paramount, the parent organization of CBS, citing financial considerations for this decision, as reported by The Guardian.<\/p>\n

In his farewell address to the audience, a visibly emotional Colbert expressed gratitude not only to the platform that made the show possible but also to the viewers who had supported him throughout the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have done over 1800 of these shows, and most nights I come out here, and I talk to the audience beforehand. And tonight I thought I\u2019d talk to the audience in here and the audience out there at home. This show, I want you to know, and you to know, has been a joy for us to do for you. In fact, we call this show The Joy Machine<\/em>\u2026\u201d started Colbert.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call it The Joy Machine, because to do this many shows, it has to be a machine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the thing is, if you choose to do it with joy, it doesn\u2019t hurt as much when your fingers get caught in the gears, and I cannot adequately explain to you what the people who work here have done for each other and how much we mean to each other\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, on night one of The Colbert Report<\/em>, back in the day, I said, \u2018Anyone can read the news to you. I promised to feel the news at you\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
