Bafana Bafana\u2019s journey to Mexico for final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been impeded by visa complications, overshadowing a much-anticipated moment. This marks South Africa’s first World Cup appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010.<\/p>\n

The timing is far from ideal, as each day lost in preparation can impact the team’s readiness ahead of competing on the sport’s grandest stage.<\/p>\n

Rather than concentrating on the game, fans are now questioning whether Safa’s ongoing issues are affecting Bafana’s performance on the field.<\/p>\n

According to SABC reports, over 20 group members were unable to travel because their visas were still being processed at the U.S. embassy in Johannesburg. This was not the send-off that fans had envisioned.<\/p>\n

The team eventually left on Monday, but the delay had already garnered international scrutiny and raised questions about Safa\u2019s organizational capabilities.<\/p>\n

The frustration lies in the familiarity of such setbacks. South African football followers have witnessed too many instances where Bafana’s athletic progress is marred by Safa’s administrative blunders.<\/p>\n

Mokoena’s suspension issue<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A notable example is the Teboho Mokoena incident. The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder played against Lesotho in a World Cup qualifier despite being suspended for accumulating two yellow cards in earlier games.<\/p>\n

Bafana secured a 2-0 victory in that match, but Fifa later reversed the result to a 3-0 loss and deducted three points from South Africa\u2019s tally. This significant error goes beyond simple mismanagement; it has the potential to derail a qualifying campaign.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie expressed his discontent over the visa delays, labeling the situation as embarrassing and unfair to the players.<\/p>\n

Effect on preparations<\/h3>\n

Such disarray would normally unsettle the players, especially given the stress associated with preparing for a World Cup without the added burden of administrative issues.<\/p>\n

However, Safa president Danny Jordaan contends that the visa setbacks have not hindered the squad. He believes that Bafana possesses sufficient experience to navigate through this challenge and maintain their focus.<\/p>\n
