The March and March Movement has outlined a three-month agenda in response to the demonstrations that occurred on 30 June against irregular migration. The group has committed to continue leveraging peaceful public engagement, collaborating with political parties, and advocating for a national conversation on immigration issues.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on 5 July 2026, the movement revealed that its National Executive Committee convened a special meeting on Friday, 3 July 2026, during which they evaluated the events leading to the demonstrations, the public reaction, and the ensuing discussions on social media.<\/p>\n
The movement expressed gratitude towards South Africans who participated in the protests, noting that the aim was to voice public dissatisfaction regarding irregular migration, governmental inadequacies, along with big businesses and criminal entities that are perceived to benefit from the circumstances.<\/p>\n
The statement highlighted that the movement organized over 120 marches nationwide, claiming that more than 98 percent of these events were peaceful.<\/p>\n
It emphasized that the non-violent nature of the protests should not be credited to any single individual or organization, as over 27 civic groups and political parties cooperated with law enforcement to maintain order and prevent looting.<\/p>\n
The movement also issued a warning against what it termed \u201cmain character syndrome,\u201d urging against marginalizing women in civic engagement efforts.<\/p>\n
\u201cSouth Africa needs a united citizenry, where women are allowed to play a meaningful role in the development of their country,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the movement confirmed that its NEC received and adopted a report concerning a July 2026 action plan from its organizing and mobilization committee, with only minor adjustments made.<\/p>\n
As part of this plan, March and March intends to reach out to political parties sympathetic to its campaign against irregular migration.<\/p>\n
The movement\u2019s agenda for the next three months includes a series of planned peaceful demonstrations, picketing, and public mobilization efforts across significant economic hubs in the country.<\/p>\n
Additionally, they aim to organize a national dialogue in Gauteng addressing irregular migration, its effects, and potential solutions. The movement has already begun discussions with various stakeholders and political entities to participate in this debate.<\/p>\n
In July, March and March is set to meet with political organizations such as the African Transformation Movement, the United Democratic Movement, and the National Freedom Party.<\/p>\n
The objective of these meetings is to urge political parties to adopt a unified stance regarding irregular migration and the enforcement of immigration regulations.<\/p>\n
The statement also mentioned plans to engage municipalities and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs concerning proposed municipal regulations associated with the township economy.<\/p>\n
