MAHIKENG \u2013 Authorities in North West have reported that the inquiry into the assassination of community advocate Thato Molosankwe has revealed possible ties to a larger organized crime group, which is thought to be responsible for various violent offenses, including homicides, armed robberies, and drug trafficking.<\/p>\n
During a press briefing on Friday, Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Ryno Naidoo confirmed the arrests of two individuals, aged 28 and 38, in connection with Molosankwe\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
Prior to speaking with the media, Naidoo mentioned that officials from SAPS had met with the Molosankwe family to provide them with the latest updates directly from the investigators.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was important that the family heard this news directly from the South African Police Service before it was shared publicly,\u201d Naidoo stated.<\/p>\n
Significant development in the high-profile murder case<\/p>\n
Molosankwe was shot and killed at his residence in Mahikeng on 20 May 2026, following an attack by armed assailants who reportedly fled on foot before using a previously positioned getaway vehicle.<\/p>\n
In response, the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit quickly initiated a thorough investigation, supported by Crime Intelligence, forensic experts, and other specialized units.<\/p>\n
Naidoo indicated that investigators tirelessly analyzed forensic data, interviewed witnesses, and pursued intelligence-driven leads, leading to the recent arrests.<\/p>\n
The first suspect was detained just three days after the incident, on 23 May 2026, in relation to the homicides of local business owners Sergio and Marlene Gomez. Authorities report that he has remained in police custody and is also implicated in Molosankwe\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n
The second suspect was located and apprehended at an apartment in Mmabatho Extension 39.<\/p>\n
Police believe they have disrupted an organized crime network<\/p>\n
Naidoo characterized the arrests as a crucial step forward, yet emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement is actively seeking additional individuals believed to have been involved in the orchestration and execution of the murder.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do confirm that we are aware of the whereabouts of the vehicle and we are in the process of seizing it,\u201d Naidoo stated.<\/p>\n
He noted that the evidence gathered so far indicates a connection between the suspects and a larger criminal organization.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs police, we do believe that we have broken the back of a syndicate allegedly involved in several serious and violent crimes, including murders, business robberies and the illegal dealing of drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the exact motive behind Molosankwe\u2019s murder remains undetermined, Naidoo remarked that investigators have not dismissed the idea that his vocal opposition to crime could have led to him being targeted.<\/p>\n

The two suspects are anticipated to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate\u2019s Court on Monday, 13 July 2026, as police continue their search for others believed to have been involved in the murder.<\/p>\n
