A troubling video circulating on social media, which claims that a six-year-old girl was raped by a scholar transport driver in Jane Furse, has incited significant outrage throughout South Africa. After conducting a thorough investigation, Limpopo police have stated that there is no evidence to support the claims or to identify the purported victims.<\/p>\n

Major General Jan Scheepers, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, expressed strong disapproval of the trend where unverified criminal claims are shared online rather than reported directly to the South African Police Service (SAPS).<\/p>\n

The video that has gone viral alleged that a young girl in a village near Jane Furse was raped by a driver responsible for scholar transport. It also suggested that SAPS had declined to file a criminal case and that threats were made against the child and her family by the suspect and his relatives.<\/p>\n

These serious allegations spread rapidly on social media, leading to public concern and a swift response from law enforcement.<\/p>\n

Police stated that officers promptly began inquiries in the Jane Furse area. Investigators visited the local police station and checked with schools that the alleged victim and her sister, reportedly associated with the TikTok videos, may have attended.<\/p>\n

Despite their investigations, officials could not identify the alleged victims, validate the video\u2019s assertions, or find any record of a criminal case that corresponds to the allegations within SAPS.<\/p>\n

Major General Scheepers cautioned that spreading unverified claims can lead to severe repercussions, such as causing needless fear, disseminating false information, and eroding public trust in the justice system.<\/p>\n

He urged that victims of rape, gender-based violence, or other serious crimes should report incidents without delay to enable immediate investigations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage all victims to report crimes directly to the police. Failure to report offenders allows perpetrators to remain at large and increases the risk of them committing further crimes. Open a case and allow the police to investigate,\u201d Scheepers said.<\/p>\n

He added that SAPS officers are trained to manage allegations of rape and other serious offenses with professionalism and sensitivity.<\/p>\n

Scheepers clarified that no police officer is allowed to refuse to register a criminal case. Should a reported issue not constitute a criminal offense, complainants will be informed accordingly, and the incident will still be accurately recorded in police documentation.<\/p>\n

Although police have found no supporting evidence for the online allegations, they are encouraging anyone with pertinent information regarding the alleged incident or those involved to come forward.<\/p>\n

This situation underscores the increasing challenge authorities face as serious accusations can go viral on social media before they can be substantiated.
