This week, the political conflict between the Umkhonto WeSizwe Party (MK Party) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) escalated in the KwaZulu Natal Legislature as MK Party members publicly marked the deposition of Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi from his role as the Zulu Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Buthelezi, a leading figure within the IFP and the current KwaZulu Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, was present in the Legislature when MK Party members celebrated the appointment of his successor, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza. Their remarks underscored the significant rifts between the competing political factions.<\/p>\n

Chiliza, a leader within the MK Party in the KwaZulu Natal Legislature, has assumed the traditional leadership role after being appointed by King Misuzulu Sinqobile kaZwelithini.<\/p>\n

This announcement has heightened political strife between the MK Party and the IFP, who have become staunch adversaries in the province. The MK Party has previously claimed that the IFP has obstructed its efforts to establish a provincial government following coalition agreements with smaller political entities.<\/p>\n

During the session in the Legislature, four MK Party members expressed their pleasure regarding Buthelezi’s exit from the royal position.<\/p>\n

MK Party member Silindile Seme, for instance, greeted Chiliza\u2019s new role<\/a> while taking a jab at Buthelezi.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sympathise with you,\u201d Seme remarked, adding: \u201cAnd yet you have already bought so many cars!\u201d<\/p>\n

These words caught attention as Buthelezi listened in the chamber.<\/p>\n

King Misuzulu Announces Leadership Change<\/h2>\n

The King’s spokesperson, Prince Regent Mpikayise Buthelezi, confirmed the decision to relieve Buthelezi of his duties.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe King has sent me to announce to the entire Zulu nation that we wish to relieve the reverend, who was the Zulu prime minister, from this highly demanding responsibility of being the Zulu Prime Minister,\u201d Prince Regent Buthelezi stated.<\/p>\n

He indicated that Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza is now the new Zulu Prime Minister, while Buthelezi will maintain other government responsibilities.<\/p>\n

The King’s office expressed gratitude for Buthelezi’s service during his tenure and acknowledged his contributions to the Zulu nation.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the Monarch called upon the Royal House, traditional leaders, amakhosi, izinduna, and the broader Zulu community to rally behind the new leadership structure.<\/p>\n

\u201cInkosi Chiliza will be advising the King and supervising the operations of the Office of the Zulu Prime Minister,\u201d a statement from the King’s office affirmed.<\/p>\n

Chiliza had previously held the position of Deputy Zulu Prime Minister prior to his elevation.<\/p>\n

Buthelezi\u2019s Second Removal From the Role<\/h2>\n

This latest development adds another chapter to the turbulent record of Buthelezi\u2019s short time in the role of Zulu Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Initially appointed during the commemoration of the Battle of Isandlwana in 2024, Buthelezi was removed from office later that same year, only to be reinstated near the end of the subsequent year.<\/p>\n

His recent dismissal marks the second time he has lost this royal position.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear if the Deputy Zulu Prime Minister role will persist or be eliminated due to Chiliza\u2019s ascension.<\/p>\n

Further Changes Within King Misuzulu\u2019s Office<\/h2>\n

Buthelezi’s removal coincides with other leadership shifts within the Zulu Royal House.<\/p>\n

Recently, King Misuzulu terminated the position of his former spokesperson, Prince Thulani kaGqikazi Zulu.<\/p>\n

The reorganization continued last week when Prince Khishwengubani stepped down from the Monarch\u2019s office shortly after being appointed.<\/p>\n

The entry of new individuals into key positions indicates a phase of substantial restructuring within the Zulu Royal House, aimed at bolstering its administrative and advisory frameworks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
