A fire incident at a commercial building in Gauteng has led to the temporary closure of the SASSA Meyerton Local Office, prompting officials to work on restoring services while beneficiaries are redirected to other locations.<\/p>\n

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced the temporary closure of its Meyerton Local Office due to a fire that damaged portions of the building housing the office.<\/p>\n

The fire broke out on the evening of Tuesday, 21 July 2026, reportedly starting in one of the shops within the building before spreading to various businesses, including the SASSA office itself.<\/p>\n

Senior Manager of SASSA Gauteng Region, Lungelo Mkamba, stated that the agency\u2019s Security Management and Facilities Management Units, alongside appropriate authorities, are currently assessing the full extent of the damage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated,\u201d Mkamba mentioned.<\/p>\n

The closure has been enacted as a precaution for the safety of beneficiaries, employees, and other stakeholders during ongoing safety inspections and damage evaluations.<\/p>\n
