Big Zulu Pays Tribute to Maskandi Artist Scebi Dlamini. Big Zulu has expressed his grief in light of the unexpected passing of celebrated Maskandi musician Scebi Dlamini, who tragically lost his life in a car crash.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In dealing with the profound loss, the renowned rapper turned to Instagram to share a heartfelt message about his fellow artist. \u201cAw kodwa mfwethu<\/em>💔 ngiohelelwa amagama Scebi<\/em>💔 RIPOWER my brother ulale kahle,\u201d<\/em> Big Zulu stated.<\/p>\n

Big Zulu’s message, which reflects his struggle to articulate the pain of the loss, captures the shock resonating throughout South Africa\u2019s music scene in the wake of Dlamini\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n

The talented Maskandi musician, originally from Msinga in KwaZulu-Natal, lost his life in the early hours of Sunday, 9 August 2026, following a collision at traffic lights near Melomed Hospital in Richards Bay.<\/p>\n

Responders, including emergency services and police, arrived swiftly, but Dlamini had sustained injuries that proved fatal. A member of his crew, Gamu Mchunu, also died in the incident, while two others in the vehicle were hospitalized with injuries.<\/p>\n

Siboniso Duma, the MEC for KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements, confirmed the tragic news and honored Dlamini for his significant impact on South African music. He referred to Dlamini as a national treasure, whose contributions earned him a fond regard among many Maskandi enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

Scebi Dlamini was also known for his modesty and for elevating uMsinga\u2019s status in the cultural landscape through his music.<\/p>\n

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sports, Arts and Culture extended its sympathies and acknowledged the extent of Dlamini’s contributions to the Maskandi genre. Over his career, he released more than 20 albums and became a prominent voice in the field.<\/p>\n

The impact of his passing is particularly heavy on his family. His uncle, Mthethelele Dlamini, spoke about the hopeful future the artist was shaping, which included plans for a new home and a life with his wife.<\/p>\n

Dlamini’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday at his residence in uMsinga.<\/p>\n

For Big Zulu, this loss is deeply personal. The two musicians collaborated on the 2019 song \u201cUbuhle Bakho\u201d, which appeared on Big Zulu\u2019s album Ungqongqoshe Wongqongqoshe<\/em>. Dlamini provided both vocals and lyrics for the track.<\/p>\n
