In a thoughtful social media reflection, Jody, whose full name is Phologo Judah Mataboge, shared a Setswana saying that highlights the importance of travel in gaining insights into both people and the world.

For Jody, the conference became a vivid realization of that insight.

What started as a chance to perform and engage in a global creative forum unfolded into something more profound. He described the conference experience as one that “became spiritual”, mentioning that “something got unlocked” within him during his time there.

Among a diverse group of creative thinkers from around the globe, Jody found himself forging connections that transcended the event. Instead of merely meeting new people, he uncovered what he termed his “Tr!be” in unexpected locales.

The experience also reinforced existing bonds, particularly with Montreal-based artist Nyota Parker. Jody expressed gratitude toward Parker and her mother, Ilunga Ange Bukasa, fondly calling Parker his “lil sis” and acknowledging her mother’s hospitality during his visit.

For an artist focused on authenticity, storytelling, and self-reliance, this trip seems to hold significance beyond just gaining international visibility.

Jody, who is known as a member of B3nchMarQ and the older brother of South African rapper A-Reece, has established a distinct path through introspective music and cinematic projects with his label, Revenge Club Records. His increasing array of international collaborations, including his partnership with Parker, continues to place his work in discussions that extend past South Africa.

Montreal served as another reminder that creative circles often span beyond conventional borders.

Jody’s insights highlight the advantage of remaining authentic while pursuing meaningful goals. In an environment where artistic and cultural restrictions may feel confining, his journey indicates that genuine self-expression can be a gateway to unexpected relationships, partnerships, and opportunities.

The essence of his message is straightforward: keep progressing, stay true to who you are, and let the journey guide you to those who share your vision.

For Jay Jody, Montreal was not just another destination. It marked a moment of recognition, artistic enlightenment, and possibly a step toward uncovering the full extent of his community.
