Rowlene Opens Up About Discontent with Tall Racks: ‘I Had Too Much Faith in One Man.’ South African R&B artist Rowlene has shared her thoughts regarding her time at Tall Racks Records, revealing that she had “too much faith in one man” and felt that the scrutiny surrounding her tenure at the label became deeply personal.

In a recent interview on SlikourOnLife’s Too Much Info, Rowlene discussed her feelings on the challenges she faced with Tall Racks, the record label created by rapper Nasty C. She was the first artist signed by the label in 2018, a partnership that would later dissolve as she sought to work independently.

“So, back to what happened to me and to Tall Racks. So what happened was, I feel like no one knew what they were doing, and I had too much faith in one man,” Rowlene stated.

Despite the obstacles she encountered, Rowlene emphasized that she holds no bitterness towards the people involved. She recognized the complexity of starting a business and navigating the music landscape, while expressing concern over certain remarks made about her work ethic.

“And at the end of the day, I hold no resentment, even though there’s so much stuff that’s being said unnecessarily,” she clarified. “I respect the fact that they could start something, and understanding how hard the industry is now.”

Rowlene specifically addressed allegations suggesting that she lacked dedication or effort during her time with the label.

“Being said and told that I was lazy and that I’m not, like, hardworking enough, or I didn’t want it enough, is kind of crazy,” she remarked.

While Rowlene typically tries to separate criticism from her personal feelings, she admitted that this particular situation resonated with her more than usual.

“Because personally, that’s one thing I try to not take personally. But this is too much info. So I’m gonna tell you I did take this personally, and that’s all I’m gonna say,” Rowlene shared.

Her insights provide a personal view of a chapter in her career that began with promise. At the time of her signing, both Rowlene and Nasty C expressed a bond built on friendship and shared faith, with Rowlene mentioning that he had confidence in her when she struggled to have it in herself.

Now, Rowlene seems to have arrived at a point where she can evaluate her journey without allowing it to overshadow her interactions with those involved.

“We’re all trying to hustle,” she noted, adding a decisive comment about the situation: “But receipts are still valid, even though I won’t use them, because I’m not God, man.”

These remarks come at a pivotal time in Rowlene’s career. Having embraced independence once more, she has entered a new chapter with her newest album, Some Strings Attached, which is her first studio release in six years. This project delves into themes of relationships, personal development, and the experiences that have shaped her, including ties within and outside the music sphere.

Though Rowlene has opted not to share the alleged evidence she claims to hold, her statements point toward the significance of her time at Tall Racks in shaping her identity as an artist.

Rather than rekindling a past dispute, the artist appears focused on recognizing her experiences, keeping her evidence private, and progressing on her own terms.
