This succinct message has attracted attention as fans and fellow musicians continue to support Mthembeni “Emtee” Ndevu. The “Roll Up” artist has been in custody at Johannesburg Correctional Services, known as Sun City, following the revocation of his bail at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court in August.

Initially, Emtee was granted bail of R1,000 in June after accusations that he violated a protection order obtained by his estranged wife, Nicole Kendall Chinsamy, in 2023. This order barred him from making contact or commenting about her on social media. Authorities claimed he breached these terms by sending WhatsApp messages, leading to his return to jail.

The rapper’s legal issues have surfaced amidst significant family disputes, with conflicts involving his parents and current partner, singer Nandi Ndathane, also making headlines. A public confrontation over Emtee’s personal belongings further highlighted the family’s troubles.

Bantwini’s recent expression of support is significant given his long-standing respect for Emtee and his musical contributions. Following Emtee’s highly publicized exit from Ambitiouz Entertainment, Bantwini was one of the many in the industry to back the rapper. He had previously mentioned that he considered offering Emtee a recording contract after hearing his breakout song “Roll Up.”

In 2020, Bantwini called for South Africans to “protect Emtee at all costs,” commending the rapper as a respectful and humble young talent with impressive musical ability.

His latest statement indicates that his backing remains firm, as the seasoned musician continues to include Emtee and his team in his prayers during this challenging time in both his personal and career life.

Emtee rose to prominence in South African hip hop with his platinum-certified debut album Avery in 2015. After splitting from Ambitiouz Entertainment, he formed Emtee Records and has pursued an independent career with projects including Logan in 2021 and DIY 3 in 2024.

As the legal matters progress, Bantwini’s public message contributes to the larger discourse surrounding Emtee’s situation. The #FreeEmtee initiative continues to garner support from the public and notable figures within South Africa’s music scene.
