Liverpool aims to revive their 2026-27 Premier League season with a visit to Portman Road, where they will take on newly promoted Ipswich Town on Friday.

Under the guidance of Andoni Iraola, the Reds have faced a challenging start to the season, managing only draws in their first two league matches against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. A late equalizer by Victor Munoz yielded a 2-2 draw with Forest last weekend, leaving Liverpool in search of their first league win.

The signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported £123m offers a significant lift, though the winger is likely to start Friday’s match on the bench. Liverpool will look to Alexander Isak, another summer acquisition, to spearhead the attack and deliver the key plays that have been missing.

Ipswich recently suffered a tough 5-2 loss to Manchester United, despite initially taking the lead through Leif Davis. Nonetheless, Gary O’Neil’s squad has impressed at Portman Road, winning their opener against Sunderland 2-1 and defeating Leicester City 3-1 in the EFL Cup.

The Tractor Boys, having won six of their last seven matches, will be eager to challenge another Premier League side.

Team News

Ipswich Town’s roster faces several injury concerns ahead of the matchup, though manager Gary O’Neil has a competitive group ready for Liverpool’s visit. Jaden Philogene-Bidace is ruled out due to an ankle injury, and Azor Matusiwa is also sidelined with a muscle injury. Jack Taylor remains unfit from a knee problem and is not expected to play.

Emersonn is uncertain for this match following a knee issue, and Florentino Luis will undergo a late fitness check before a decision on his participation is made. Nevertheless, Ipswich can count on the core players that have contributed to their strong start this season, enhancing their confidence going into the match.

On the other side, Liverpool has a longer injury list. Hugo Ekitike is set to be out for a considerable time following a ruptured Achilles, while new addition Giovanni Leoni is also unavailable due to a knee injury. Conor Bradley continues to recuperate from a serious knee issue and will miss the trip to Portman Road.

Joe Gomez is in the recovery phase from a muscle injury and remains doubtful, and Federico Chiesa is also dealing with a minor back complaint. As a result, Liverpool must carefully navigate their defensive options.

There is, however, encouraging news for their offense with the introduction of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. While he is expected to debut, it’s likely he will start the game on the bench as he adjusts to Iraola’s tactics.

With Ekitike out, Liverpool will lean heavily on Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo for their scoring, while Victor Munoz and Florian Wirtz might bring additional creativity to the play.
