DJ Maphorisa has sparked interest after stating on Podcast and Chill that he was prepared to offer R500,000 for Samthing Soweto to perform at the Scorpion Kings’ event at FNB Stadium on 19 September 2026. This episode was released on Thursday, 17 September 2026, and the excerpt has since gained traction on X.

In the discussion, which took place in a bright yellow setting, Maphorisa confirmed the payment amount when asked, stating:

“I’m going to lose 500,000. I’ll buy for… For this ticket?”

The accompanying caption emphasized the statement, noting:

“DJ Maphorisa is willing to pay Samthing Soweto half a million to come and perform at the Scorpion Kings event.”

Understanding DJ Maphorisa and Samthing Soweto’s Background

The history between these two artists is well-known. Their collaboration began with significant amapiano projects, but their friendship has faced challenges, particularly regarding music credits and business matters. At one point, Samthing Soweto disclosed that he had used Maphorisa’s reputation as an amapiano icon to enhance his own album sales, admitting he had not been entirely forthcoming about Maphorisa’s production role on various tracks.

Considering this background, Maphorisa’s readiness to negotiate a fee of half a million has left many listeners questioning whether it is a sincere gesture or just a way to explain why the booking did not happen.

Public Reaction to the R500k Proposal

@KingKabazela remarked:

“DJ Maphorisa’s excuse not to book Samthing Soweto (from this video) is weak. They could’ve reached out through email or had a mediator step in for the sake of amapiano’s culture and fans.”

@King_Modjadji expressed surprise at the amount:

“Five hundred whaaaaat? Kganthi, how much are they making?”

@sunnerkeyz offered a brief critique:

“Cap.”

@LeboKillerMalel was more forthright:

“If you really wanted to, you would’ve made it happen. Call his mom if necessary.”
