Nota Baloyi has shared provocative thoughts regarding the breakup of Black Motion, which has sparked discussion within South Africa’s music scene. During a recent episode of the Music Pulse podcast, he asserted that the duo’s separation was largely due to personal egos.

Nota claims that Mörda, one half of the duo along with Thabo Smol, felt that his individual brand could thrive more effectively outside of their partnership.

“Murdah is a more disciplined guy, and he just felt like, you know, his brand could go further if he was just pushing it on his own,” Nota said during the recording. His conclusion? That the decision did not yield the desired results. “It disintegrated. He had to start from scratch.”

What sparked the conversation

This dialogue was likely triggered by a sentimental post from Mörda on his X account, where he expressed his feelings by stating, “Miss my Bro!!!!!!!” alongside a photograph, which captured the immediate attention of fans. The Audio Lab also shared this sentiment, commenting: “Till we meet again, my bro… Mörda’s words hit different. I wish Black Motion could fix things, man.”

Nota seized this opportunity to reflect on Black Motion’s impact and legacy, contending that had they not parted ways, they might have been forerunners in the genre, overshadowing acts like the Scorpion Kings. “Black Motion was hot when Pory was nothing,” he commented, referencing a time before Kabza De Small achieved notoriety. “If Black Motion didn’t split up, they probably would have been ahead of Three-Step.”

How Mzansi reacted to Nota’s post

The clip, shared by @ThisIsColbert on 22 September 2026, prompted a variety of responses from viewers who expressed strong opinions regarding the situation.

@SenBooy simply said:

“Nota is always right.”

@makhemap290 was less sympathetic:

“He was being a drama queen; now he misses his bro….bazooka..”

@oneiking aimed at the broader panel dynamic:

“Week in…Week out Nota school, these 2 clowns… single-handedly.”

@Kay_Walters_Gu offered a more measured take:

“Guys, there’s too much noise. Everyone is talking, and the worst part is that all of them think they are right. It’s too much.”

While the accuracy of Nota’s observations can be debated, Mörda’s emotional reflection indicates that there remains a connection between the two former collaborators—one that many in Mzansi hope might be mended in the future.
