Although Chelle acknowledged that Nigeria did not play at their peak, he described the match as neither definitively poor nor outstanding. He expressed satisfaction with how the players responded after conceding an early goal, recognizing their resilience in fighting back.

The coach noted that the players demonstrated the right mindset and demonstrated commitment to the national pride, emphasizing that their reaction after falling behind was a significant positive aspect of the game.

Madagascar’s Defensive Strategy and Tactical Changes

Chelle pointed out that Madagascar posed challenges by adopting a deep defensive posture and keeping a compact formation near their goal area.

Initially, Nigeria set up in a 4-4-2 diamond formation, but Chelle made tactical shifts to introduce more width and create scoring chances against Madagascar’s defensive strategy. He mentioned the necessity of utilizing the flanks and delivering crosses to create space for opportunities.

Chelle also highlighted the importance of players adapting to match situations and making sound decisions independently of the technical team’s instructions.

Integration of New Players and Team Cohesion

Chelle further acknowledged the unity within the Super Eagles, particularly how veteran players have assisted newcomers in adapting to the squad.

He mentioned that new team members are warmly welcomed and treated like younger siblings, a dynamic that he believes fosters a constructive environment within the team.

Chelle also clarified that Samuel Chukwueze’s substitution was purely tactical, aimed at injecting additional energy and introducing players capable of challenging Madagascar’s defenders in one-on-one situations.

Preparation for Guinea-Bissau

Following the completion of the opening qualifier, Chelle indicated that the Super Eagles must swiftly shift focus to their upcoming match against Guinea-Bissau.

The coach expressed the necessity for the team to review the Madagascar match, pinpoint their errors, and apply those insights to address a new challenge in their next qualifier.

Chelle reiterated his dedication to scouting Nigerian talent globally, emphasizing his intent to find all available players who can enhance the national team.

He also reaffirmed his passion for the Super Eagles, frequently reminding players of his commitment and enthusiasm for the national squad.
