Dani Carvajal has joined Getafe on a free transfer after the Spanish team received La Liga’s approval to finalize the agreement, eliminating uncertainties surrounding the right-back’s transfer.

Earlier, Getafe had reached a verbal agreement with the former Real Madrid player, with expectations that the transfer would have been completed last week. However, issues related to the club’s salary cap nearly prevented the transfer until they identified a financial solution.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Carvajal had consented to the terms of his contract, passed his medical check, and was ready to sign a deal that extends until the season’s conclusion. The main issue arose when Getafe tried to register him with La Liga but found out that they did not have enough salary-cap space.

President Angel Torres then provided the league with a financial guarantee, allowing Getafe to create the needed space to complete the registration. With approval from La Liga granted, the transfer has been officially verified.

Carvajal is anticipated to be officially introduced following Getafe’s match against Universitatea Craiova next Thursday in the UEFA Conference League.

The seasoned defender’s joining is significant for manager Jose Bordalas, whose team seeks to enhance their squad following a shaky start to the season. Carvajal, with his wealth of experience from his time at Real Madrid, is expected to bring valuable skills, having won numerous prestigious titles including six Champions League trophies.

His addition also strengthens Getafe’s right-back options as they manage a challenging schedule that involves both domestic and European matches.

In addition, Getafe is actively pursuing options in the free-agent market, with Dani Parejo being another name of interest.

The 37-year-old midfielder, who parted ways with Villarreal at the end of the last season, has reportedly caught Getafe’s attention, with preliminary discussions already taking place.

Parejo remains a notable figure in Spanish football, having played for clubs such as Real Madrid, Valencia, and Villarreal. His time with Getafe from 2009 to 2011 makes a potential return especially significant.

Aside from pursuing Parejo, Getafe’s recruitment team is still looking to add more players, especially in offensive positions. Bordalas aims for increased attacking options as his squad juggles the requirements of La Liga and the UEFA Conference League alongside their other obligations.

With Carvajal now on board, Getafe will hope that the former Real Madrid player can deliver the needed experience and defensive proficiency to bolster their season, while additional signings could follow as the club looks to strengthen further.
