Lisandro Martinez has spoken out against Manchester United’s management following their 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, asserting that the club needed to take greater measures to enhance their roster after last season’s achievements.

The Argentine defender voiced his dissatisfaction regarding the club’s recruitment policies, emphasizing that Manchester United requires higher-quality players to effectively challenge Europe’s top clubs. Information obtained by Softfootball suggests that Martinez’s statements have increased the scrutiny on the club following another disappointing European performance.

In a conversation with CBS, Martinez underscored the necessity of bolstering the squad, noting that management should have acquired additional players to keep pace with the advancements made by competing teams.

He observed that several rival clubs have added multiple new players, placing Manchester United in a position where further investments are essential to stay competitive in significant tournaments.

These comments followed Atletico Madrid’s win, which included goals from Pablo Barrios and Ademola Lookman. United faced additional challenges after Leny Yoro received a red card, complicating Michael Carrick’s efforts to rally the team.

Martinez also expressed concerns over the recurring pattern of attributing blame to managers and players when results falter. He stated that accountability should not rest solely within the team but should also involve the club’s leadership in crafting a squad capable of achieving consistent results.

Despite his earlier resolve to return to the sport after enduring significant injuries, Martinez’s statements have brought attention back to Manchester United’s recruitment strategies and aspirations. While he acknowledged the necessity for player improvement, he emphasized that increased investment in the squad is crucial for the club to compete effectively at the top level.
