Alexander Skarsgard expresses his eagerness to step into the role of the fantastical husband crafted for a lonely woman in the charming romantic film Wicker<\/em>.<\/p>\n

However, when he finally put on the elaborate costume that sent social media into a buzz, the Swedish actor revealed that his first feelings were of \u201cpanic and claustrophobia.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ensemble \u201cwas somewhat cumbersome and warm, and it was rather snug against my face. I couldn\u2019t really remove it throughout the day,\u201d Skarsgard shared with AFP during an interview.<\/p>\n

Wicker<\/em>, which is currently showing in theaters across the US, draws inspiration from \u201cThe Wicker Husband,\u201d a short tale by British writer Ursula Wills-Jones.<\/p>\n

In this film, Skarsgard appears alongside British actress Olivia Colman, who portrays a fisherwoman living in a patriarchal medieval community, where individuals are identified by their occupations.<\/p>\n

For the fisherwoman, this environment proves to be unwelcoming, as she faces exclusion due to her independence and the fact that she has no male support \u2013 not to mention she\u2019s often associated with fishy odors. Consequently, she boldly requests the basket weaver (Peter Dinklage) to craft her a husband. A month later, Skarsgard\u2019s character emerges \u2013 a tall, attractive, intricately woven dream partner.<\/p>\n

His skills in domestic chores \u2013 along with his bedroom talents \u2013 quickly become the talk of the village. The local men harbor resentment as they struggle to compete, while the women experience jealousy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe movie can just be enjoyed at surface level, and it\u2019s this fun spectacle,\u201d stated Eleanor Wilson, who co-directed the film with her partner, Alex Huston Fischer.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut underneath that, there\u2019s a lot going on that does feel very modern and relatable to us,\u201d she noted, adding that she doesn\u2019t believe it would succeed as a fable set in the contemporary era.<\/p>\n

With its medieval backdrop and eccentric characters, \u201cyou can just see it more clearly,\u201d Huston Fischer remarked.<\/p>\n

\u2018Passion\u2019<\/h3>\n

Wilson revealed that the pair \u201cfell in love\u201d with the narrative from the onset.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just explored how envy can taint love, and how we all tend to measure ourselves against others,\u201d she explained to AFP.<\/p>\n

For Huston Fischer, the main objective was to create a visually stunning experience for audiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were curious to see what the wicker husband could look like,\u201d he mentioned.<\/p>\n

This responsibility was entrusted to Weta Workshop, the New Zealand effects studio famed for its work on the Lord of the Rings<\/em> series and Christopher Nolan\u2019s The Odyssey.<\/em><\/p>\n

The characteristics of the wicker man\u2019s face mirror Skarsgard\u2019s own likeness; however, the actor indicated that the prosthetic made emotional expression challenging.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to amplify all my facial expressions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

With the mask adhered to his face, \u201cany nuances would be lost, so the slightest frown would be unnoticeable. We had to experiment with that,\u201d Skarsgard explained.<\/p>\n

He mentioned feeling like a \u201cclown\u201d during rehearsals, but Colman praised his attempts.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s incredibly humble,\u201d the Oscar-winning actress stated. \u201cAll credit to Alex because to convey that \u2013 the love, the nuances, the humor, and everything else \u2013 through essentially a basket is remarkable, and few could pull it off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The duo explained that production kicked off with the intimate scenes. Clips from those moments quickly went viral, leading even the popular Swedish furniture store IKEA to run clever ads touting some of its rattan items as being \u201ccrafted from husband material.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile there is undoubtedly a lot of passion and intensity, there\u2019s also humor, a sense of warmth, and amusing, awkward moments within those scenes,\u201d Skarsgard mentioned, referring to it as \u201ca fitting way to commence the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
