“I met Buzza when I was 16; he really is royalty,” recounts Anele Mgudlwa’s distinctive voice in the trailer for her forthcoming series, showcasing a collage of her husband, Prince Bonelela “Buzza James” Mgudlwa.

The series, which was initially revealed earlier this year during Netflix’s celebration of its decade-long presence in Africa, is set to debut next month on 13 November.

The leading streaming service has released a brief trailer that provides insight into the show, developed by Nomzamo Mbatha and Teddy Geldart along with Vuyo Sowah and Petronella Tasara, who serve as co-creators and executive producers.

The trailer illustrates that the journey toward a fairy tale ending is filled with family interactions, ambitious wedding preparations, and unforeseen obstacles. “At the heart of it all is a beautiful love story as the couple prepares to celebrate their forever, surrounded by the people, traditions, and moments that matter most,” stated the platform in an announcement.

“Stars and Vows: Anele & Buzza provides a close-up, behind-the-scenes perspective on the powerful duo’s preparations for marriage. Beyond the stunning attire, celebrity-studded attendees, and lavish festivities, the special reveals the genuine feelings, characters, and cultural customs that render a wedding truly unforgettable.”

The platform has also pointed out five key moments to anticipate in the 4-part royal celebration:

1. A dome, a dream and competing demands

Planning a wedding of this magnitude requires more than just ideas and inspiration boards. As Anele strives to transform her envisioned celebration into reality, her discussions with the wedding planner highlight the stakes involved in ensuring every aspect is flawless. With expectations soaring and the day approaching, the urgency to fulfill the vision amplifies.

2. Inside Anele and Buzza’s inner circle

The bridal party’s journey to the stunning vistas of Kenya gives a more authentic insight into Anele and Buzza’s lives beyond their online personas. From the friendships that influence them to the dynamics in their closest circle, the trip sheds light on the individuals who understand the couple best, the connections they cherish, and the joy and camaraderie that accompany their path to marriage.

3. Family not welcome?

Traditionally, weddings aim to unite families, even when there are unresolved grievances. For Anele and Buzza, their journey to the altar entails addressing troubled relationships, reconciling with their past, and establishing firm boundaries, as not everyone is entitled to witness their joyous union.

4. A front-row seat to Xhosa royal traditions

Anele is not only marrying the man she loves; she is also becoming a Xhosa princess and embracing her new identity as a royal spouse. Set in the Eastern Cape, the couple’s second wedding serves as a magnificent tribute to love, culture, and royal customs. From the bride’s welcome to the naming rites and the meaningful exchanges between their families, each moment carries deep cultural importance.

5. Blood ties and deep pockets save the day

As Anele’s wedding dreams escalate beyond the couple’s financial capabilities, she reaches out to a relative for monetary assistance to actualize her envisioned celebration. However, financial support brings added influence, creating a complex scenario of family pressures, conflicting views, and escalating expectations.

Stars and Vows: Anele & Buzza will be available exclusively on Netflix starting 13 November.
