On Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs will face Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, with Amakhosi eager to avoid a repeat of last year’s dismal performance in the same competition.<\/p>\n

Last year, under newly appointed head coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Young Africans during a pre-season friendly at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.<\/p>\n

In the Betway Premiership, Chiefs struggled, finishing the season in ninth place. Nonetheless, their triumph in the Nedbank Cup brought home their first trophy in a decade, greatly delighting their fans after defeating Orlando Pirates in the final.<\/p>\n

During the unveiling of Chiefs’ new kit for the 2025\/26 season this week, Kappa\u2019s Ricky Joseph shared that the cup victory has significantly boosted jersey sales.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can confidently say that we\u2019ve pre-sold more jerseys for this season than for all previous seasons combined,\u201d he informed the media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis reflects the growing excitement among the fans. Winning the Nedbank Cup has instilled more belief and reason to purchase. The sales following the cup victory were phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Chiefs will sport their new home kit in the first half against Kotoko and switch to the away kit for the second half.<\/p>\n

Despite the Nedbank Cup victory, speculation about Nasreddine Nabi’s job security lingered. Ultimately, the Tunisian coach remains in charge and has led the team\u2019s pre-season training in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

However, Nabi’s squad will need to demonstrate an ability to perform better and more consistently against Kotoko as they gear up for the 2025\/26 season.<\/p>\n

Fans in Durban can also expect to see some of Chiefs’ new signings in action as the team prepares for their Betway Premiership campaign opener away to Stellenbosch on August 10.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A Challenge from Kotoko<\/h3>\n

With Chiefs not participating in next weekend’s MTN8, the match against Kotoko serves as their best opportunity for competitive play ahead of the league season.<\/p>\n

Similar to Chiefs, Kotoko clinched their FA Cup title last season and will also be competing in this season’s Caf Confederation Cup.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
