Black Motion, Kelvin Momo stands out among the nominees for SAMAs 2025<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The nominees for the 31st South African Music Awards (SAMA31) have been revealed by the Recording Industry of South Africa.<\/p>\n

This announcement occurred during a private event in Johannesburg, which was also broadcast live on social platforms.<\/p>\n

Amapiano musician Kelvin Momo and celebrated jazz artist Thandiswa Mazwai are at the forefront this year with three nominations each.<\/p>\n

Momo received nominations for Best Amapiano Album with Sewe and for Best Collaboration with Ntsako. \u201cI appreciate the recognition. It means we are doing something right,\u201d he commented.<\/p>\n

Mazwai garnered nominations for Best Produced Album, Best Engineered Album, and Best Adult Contemporary Album for her work Sankofa. She reflected on the album, stating, \u201cSankofa, in the Ghanaian language Twi, means to go back and fetch what\u2019s been left behind for healing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Notable mentions include Makhadzi\u2019s nomination for Best Traditional Album with Miracle Child, alongside Zama Jobe\u2019s return with her project Umi.<\/p>\n

Unati Gwija, a spokesperson for the SAMAs, characterized this year\u2019s nominations as \u201ca symphony of South African sound, a playlist that celebrates not only genres but the journeys behind them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The main ceremony is set for November under the theme Less Noise. More Music, incorporating both a physical audience and a virtual stream. The top five categories will be disclosed in September.<\/p>\n
