This film premiered on the first anniversary of the single that propelled her to the forefront of South Africa’s music scene, highlighting her talents beyond music and emphasizing her narrative skills across different mediums.
Initially praised for its emotional depth, Ngisakuthanda now makes its mark through film. The project, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kuda Jemba, explores themes of first love, heartbreak, and the formative experiences of youth. Zee celebrated the film’s launch with an exclusive event at The Bioscope on 20 November, where fans received an intimate introduction. Following the premiere, the film was made available online, quickly attracting over 200,000 views within just 72 hours. Viewers have lauded it as a risk-taking and impactful entry in the South African artistic landscape.
In the film, Zee portrays a more nuanced version of her creative identity. Under the guidance of actor, writer, and director Anelisa Phewa, she expresses authenticity and emotional openness in collaboration with emerging talent Thandolwethu Olly Zondi. Their on-screen chemistry invigorates the narrative, bringing it to life.
Kuda Jemba describes the film as “a collective diary of emotions,” merging personal and shared narratives of love, mistakes, and personal development. The day following the film’s online release, Zee received the Editor’s Award at the GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards 2025, further solidifying her role as a cultural figure and a versatile creative force.
