Deco: Barcelona Not in Urgent Need of New Striker

Deco Confirms No Penalty Clause in Rashford's Loan: A Bright Moment at Barca
Deco, the sporting director of Barcelona, has indicated that the club might forgo signing a striker in the upcoming January transfer window as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski, as reported by Softfootball.

The former Chelsea player observed from the stands last week as Lewandowski failed to convert a penalty during Barcelona’s disappointing 4-1 loss to Sevilla shortly before the international break.

In a post shared via his official X account, Fabrizio Romano reported Deco’s view that Barcelona should not fixate on the need for a new striker. He stated:

Barça director Deco: “There’s no need to be obsessed with signing a new striker”.

“Maybe it’s possible to play without a traditional striker. Ferran can play as a number 9… PSG won the Champions League without a main striker,” told MD.

Lewandowski, a prominent figure in European football for the past decade, is now 37 years old and in his fourth season with Barcelona, which is actively exploring options for future replacements.

Current speculation includes links to Manchester City’s prolific scorer Erling Haaland and Borussia Dortmund’s striker Serhou Guirassy. Additionally, Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has been mentioned as a leading candidate, recognized as one of the top strikers globally.

Meanwhile, former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres has been utilized as a center-forward under Hansi Flick, with Lewandowski being rested in certain fixtures. This approach may continue following Deco’s remarks, who cited PSG’s recent success in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League without a traditional striker.

After their recent loss to Sevilla, Barcelona has slipped to second place in the Spanish league, accumulating 19 points across eight matches, two points behind their rivals Real Madrid.
