Umndeni star Mahlalentabeni is alive
Flora “Mahlalentabeni” Makena’s family has publicly clarified that the reality TV star from Umndeni is alive, following recent reports that indicated her death.
The misunderstanding arose after a severe medical crisis led to her being placed in intensive care, which initially left her family fearing the worst.
While they are relieved by her survival, family members express ongoing concern for her emotional state, stating that she is still quite fragile.
The family has come forward with claims that financial stress and challenges related to her experience on Umndeni contributed to her current situation, allegations that have been firmly denied by the broadcaster, Moja Love.
In a conversation with Sunday World, Mahlalentabeni’s sister, Nomvula Makena, shared that the family was traumatized by the events surrounding her medical emergency and believed they had lost her for a time.
As she regains consciousness, Nomvula noted that their focus has shifted to ensuring such an incident does not happen again.
“We are scared she would do something like this again. Even now, she keeps asking about the money Moja Love owes her,” she remarked.
The family asserts that Mahlalentabeni became increasingly distressed due to allegedly not receiving her payment while some of her colleagues had been compensated.
“She was hurt because only Dabula and Maseko were paid,” stated Nomvula.
Additionally, the family claims their sister faced ongoing humiliation and pressure, as well as vicious comments on social media after expressing her frustrations.
“People were sent to comment nasty things about our poor situation at home… She told me she did not deserve what they were doing to her,” Nomvula said.
In another accusation, the family contends that when Mahlalentabeni inquired about her unpaid wages, she was reportedly told that production had wrapped up, and she should seek assistance on social platforms.
They also allege that she endured mistreatment during filming that was left unbroadcast, yet felt compelled to keep working as it was the family’s primary income source.
Moja Love has dismissed these allegations entirely.
The spokesperson for the channel, Nonzwakazi Cekete, commented that Mahlalentabeni’s challenges were linked to personal and mental health issues beyond the broadcaster’s influence, including domestic disputes and days missed from filming.
As the situation develops, Mahlalentabeni’s family has emphasized that their focus is on her recovery and safety, while public discussions regarding the allegations and her experience on the show persist.
