Doja Cat Mends Ties with South African Roots Amid Family Conflict

Doja Cat to Steal the Spotlight at Move Afrika 2026: A Landmark Debut in South Africa

Doja Cat recently had an emotional experience during her trip to South Africa, reconnecting with her paternal relatives for the first time.

Videos have surfaced online depicting the heartfelt gathering, featuring the Grammy Award-winning artist surrounded by family members who gave her a warm reception.

Family members, including cousins and half-siblings, filled the space with joy as Doja celebrated her South African heritage during her visit.

This significant family reconnection took place just days ahead of her performance at the Global Citizen Festival 2026, where she captivated a large audience, emphasizing her ties to the nation.

Nevertheless, the expected joyous reunion was marred by a public dispute involving her father, Dumisani Dlamini.

He gained attention after asserting that he was barred from attending his daughter’s concert, claiming he had purchased a ticket.

“I am going with all the security; they kicked me out of the place. They said, ‘You are not allowed to come and see your daughter.’ I’ve paid the money for tickets, no one offered me,” he stated in a heartfelt video shared online.

This incident followed a heated exchange between them on social media, which included Doja’s assertion that she sent him a misleading link after he supposedly declined her invitation to the event.

In spite of the ongoing situation, Dlamini requested the public to refrain from turning against his daughter, expressing his continued support for her journey.

At the same time, he brought attention to Doja’s mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, claiming she had largely prevented him from being part of their child’s life.
