BNC Technology, recognized for its custom home cinema design and installation, has introduced its flagship Platinum Home Cinema — a R10 million, fully immersive private cinema that sets a new standard for residential entertainment in South Africa.
Years of development have culminated in the Platinum Home Cinema, which embodies BNC Technology’s design philosophy: an integration of precision engineering, architectural finesse and luxurious finishes. Tailored for affluent clients, it combines top-tier audiovisual performance, smart system configuration, and carefully designed interiors into a harmonious setting.
“This cinema is not just a room. It is an experience that captures everything BNC stands for — performance, precision and quiet luxury,” says Nick Caripis, Managing Director of BNC Technology.
At the heart of the Platinum Home Cinema is a reference-grade 7.1.4 audio system, prominently featuring a 17-speaker Meridian Audio setup. The DSP520.2 in-wall digital active loudspeakers serve as the front stage, employing quad-amplified Class-D technology and sophisticated digital signal processing to produce high-resolution audio with outstanding clarity, richness, and control. Additionally, the system includes DSP320.2 in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, ensuring a wide sound dispersion and seamless surround sound integration, creating a captivating and immersive auditory atmosphere throughout the venue.
Four 15-inch subwoofers provide low-frequency sound, enhancing depth and physical presence while ensuring precision and balance in all listening positions.
The room itself features advanced acoustical engineering with specialized treatment and isolation materials, achieving a highly controlled listening experience that improves dialogue clarity, spatial accuracy, and dynamic range. Aligned with CEDIA’s global best practices, the cinema attains Level 3 reference performance for dynamics, positioning it among the top residential cinema environments worldwide.
Visually, the cinematic experience is anchored by a Barco Njord Cinemascope projector, a top-tier laser phosphor system that provides 5,120 x 2,160 resolution, HDR support, and up to 9,000 lumens of brightness. This is matched with a 4-meter CinemaScope screen, delivering impressive scale, contrast, and color fidelity within the DCI/P3 color spectrum, with sophisticated image processing ensuring smooth motion and minimal artifacts across various content.
Despite its technical intricacies, the Platinum Home Cinema is characterized by subtlety. All technological components have been seamlessly integrated into the overall design, featuring in-wall and in-ceiling systems, hidden infrastructure, and a thoughtfully selected material palette that aligns with contemporary luxury aesthetics. This approach results in a space where technology fades away, allowing the experience to take precedence.
Beyond just performance, the interior design modernizes cinematic luxury through contemporary architecture. Inspired by elements of traditional theaters, the space utilizes rich materials and a variety of tones — incorporating stone, fabric, and metallic highlights — to craft a layered and immersive environment. The use of red stone subtly evokes the iconic curtain moment of classic cinema, while brass accents introduce warmth and sophistication, making it a space that engages the eyes as much as it impresses technically.
The Platinum Home Cinema exemplifies a growing trend in luxury living, where homes are increasingly crafted as complete, experience-oriented settings. As technology advances, its function is to subtly blend into the environment, allowing for intuitive and immersive experiences that feel effortless for users.
“Clients today are looking for more than high-performance systems,” adds Caripis. “They want spaces that are considered, immersive and seamlessly integrated into their lives. The real luxury lies in how everything works together.”
In this framework, the Platinum Home Cinema transcends a mere high-end installation; it is a fully realized turnkey solution where acoustic science, engineering expertise, and design synergy converge. Whether functioning as a dedicated cinema room or integrated into a larger smart home system, each installation is customized to suit the client’s architectural style, lifestyle, and preferences.
With a history of award-winning projects and accolades from international industry organizations such as CEDIA, BNC Technology continues to define the gold standard for bespoke residential cinema design in South Africa. The Platinum Home Cinema serves as both a demonstration of possibilities and a vision for the future of luxury home entertainment.
