The case concerning the murder of a soldier from Kurhula Village, involving four defendants, has been postponed yet again, with a decision on bail anticipated later this month from the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court.
The defendants—Daniel Dan Lubisi, Grace Nomthandaza Mazibuko, Sam Masangu, and Amos Bvuma—were present at court on May 6 and 7, 2026.
Authorities allege that the 54-year-old soldier was killed in a planned attack supposedly orchestrated by individuals within his circle.
Investigators have identified Lubisi as the shooter, asserting he acted with the help of Bvuma, while Mazibuko, the soldier’s wife, and Masangu purportedly organized the assassination.
The soldier was fatally shot on May 28, 2025, while en route to work.
Following arrests on November 18, 2025, police reportedly found a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the murder, along with 14 rounds of ammunition.
Lubisi has withdrawn his bail request, while Mazibuko and Masangu continue to seek release on bail.
The court learned that the [Department of Home Affairs] has blocked Bvuma’s identity document amid allegations of its fraudulent procurement.
On May 6, 2026, the investigating officer concluded their testimony, and defense attorneys presented their arguments on May 7, 2026, in advance of the upcoming bail decision.
