Junior Khanye expressed that Orlando Pirates left their fans disappointed after they were unable to clinch the Betway Premiership title with a win against Durban City FC.
The Buccaneers played to a frustrating 0-0 draw at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, resulting in a postponement of their title celebrations.
Pirates currently sit in second place on the league table with 66 points, trailing Mamelodi Sundowns by two points, who have already completed their fixtures.
With high hopes before the match, many anticipated that Pirates would easily secure a win against the newly crowned Nedbank Cup champions and celebrate the league title before the final matchday.
Now, the Soweto team must secure a victory against Orbit College FC in Mbombela next weekend to have a chance at dethroning Sundowns.
Khanye drew a parallel between the disappointment felt by Pirates supporters and a profound romantic letdown.
“What happened to Orlando Pirates is like a woman, a girlfriend on her birthday,” Khanye stated on iDiski TV.
“She personally goes all out and buys a cake, buys your preferred drinks, and other things you like.
“Then gets home and sets the table, and you don’t come back home. Like Mr Party is not there. That’s very painful.
I feel sorry for Orlando Pirates fans.”
Additionally, the former Kaizer Chiefs winger questioned coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s choices for this crucial match.
Khanye expressed surprise at the inclusion of young player Simphiwe Selepe in the starting line-up, given his limited appearances this season.
“And going to the game, just the starting 11, I’m surprised at Ouaddou starting with Selepe in a game like this,” he noted.
“The boy got a yellow card in 20 minutes, and I wasn’t surprised because if you don’t play competitive football for a while, even if you train with the team, you are still nervous. You lack confidence.”
