Sizwe Dhlomo Honors DJ Warras: Mending Relationships Before the Clock Strikes

On the morning of Wednesday, 27 May 2026, South African radio audiences were taken aback when Sizwe Dhlomo revealed his resignation from Kaya 959.

Having served as the face of the station’s widely followed breakfast show, Siz the World, which aired weekdays from 06:00 to 09:00, Dhlomo confirmed during an emotional on-air announcement that he will likely conclude his role at the end of June.

He shared that the choice was difficult, stating he is taking a sabbatical and emphasizing that when he returns to the radio, it will not be at Kaya 959. He also disclosed that the resolution was made in 2025 and encouraged his co-hosts to support whomever the station selects as his replacement.

“This was not an easy decision, Kaya FM has been home to me, but I believe it’s time for a new chapter in my life and career.”

In September 2025, the radio station confirmed Sol Phenduka’s departure, which followed a controversial defamation case involving Minnie Dlamini and Podcast and Chill host, MacG. Sol co-hosted Siz the World with Sizwe.

The announcement quickly gained traction online, with fans, celebrities, and political figures expressing admiration for Sizwe’s substantial contributions to talk radio since he joined in 2020. He noted that although he is known for having numerous brief appearances at past positions, the relationships he formed with colleagues and the steadfast support from his dedicated listeners were key reasons he remained at Kaya FM for an impressive duration of six years.

For years, Siz the World has consistently been a force in online trends, with Dhlomo’s incisive commentary, candid opinions, and captivating radio segments keeping Mzansi engaged every morning. His talent for igniting national conversations transformed his show into an essential listen for many.

Though Dhlomo kept his future plans under wraps, speculation abounds regarding a potential return to television or even music. He did mention a “big project” with Sony that demands his full focus for the next six months. This announcement follows closely on the heels of his collaboration with DJ Maphorisa at his new recording studio.

On 21 May, he posted a screenshot of himself listening to Drake’s track Make Them Pay from the Iceman album. He drew attention to a line, “I’m better off independent, they should let him leave,” initially referencing the rapper’s ongoing disputes with his label, Universal Music Group. However, in light of Sizwe’s recent resignation, this post now carries a different implication.

Meanwhile, devoted listeners, including several other celebrities and broadcasters, are bracing for the departure of a significant voice in morning radio.

Reactions on social media to Sizwe Dhlomo’s resignation

Fans and colleagues took to social media in droves, expressing their disbelief at Sizwe’s abrupt departure. Here are some comments collected.

Former Kaya FM host Sol Phenduka responded with surprise:

“Wow, bro, @SizweDhlomo. Gone, just like that?”

PulseOnlineInfo remarked:

“Listening to Kaya959 and folks are freaking out because @SizweDhlomo dropped a bomb on them. People really care about this dude.”

palesa_moleko sent well wishes to Sizwe Dhlomo:

“@SizweDhlomo, we, your loyal supporters, are going to miss you. Your show is so informative, your laughter is contagious, and we’re going to miss your smart brain over anything else. Good luck with your future endeavours, and we will follow you wherever you go. #TeamDinangwe.”

presmhlts expressed support:

“The show goes on, @SizweDhlomo.”

Ndex_M shared an emotional response:

“Why am I feeling sad about this news? The most chilled breakfast show ever! The Show Goes On is not helping. Thank you, Sizwe, on the street, on the air, everywhere.”

Aaron_JamesZA commented on the moment:

“Sizwe Dhlomo playing Bruce Hornsby’s ‘The Show Goes On’ right after casually dropping the bomb that he’s leaving Kaya FM. Yeah, that might be one of the saddest moments I’ve ever heard on the radio.”
