Diphetogo Fine Art Exhibition Opens Call for North West Visual ArtistsThe Diphetogo Fine Art Exhibition is scheduled for 25 to 29 August 2026 at Mmabana Taung, centered around the theme Diphetogo: A Homage to Women Who Brought About Change in Your Life.
Organized by Motswako Culture (Pty) Ltd, the company established by Tuks, this exhibition encourages artists from the province to create pieces that reflect the significant influence of women in their lives or society.
Choosing Mmabana Taung as the venue highlights the importance of this initiative. The cultural center has played a crucial role in cultivating artistic talent in the North West for many years, offering opportunities for emerging artists to enhance their skills and showcase their creations. The exhibition is designed to further this legacy, creating a space where art, heritage, and storytelling converge.
Taung holds both historical and cultural significance. Recognized globally as the site of the Taung Child fossil discovery, it is also steeped in Setswana culture and traditions. Organizers are confident that the location is ideal for an exhibition that honors identity, resilience, and the impactful contributions of women.
The event supports the goals of the Mzansi Golden Economy, aiming to boost local creative sectors, increase access to the arts, stimulate cultural tourism, and provide sustainable opportunities for artists in the region.
Since its inception in 1991, Mmabana, with its flagship center in Mmabatho, has become one of the most prominent cultural institutions in the North West. Over the years, it has helped nurture some of the country’s top artists, including HHP, Presley Chweneyagae, Morafe, Mo Molemi, Khuli Chana, Aus Tebza, Thebe Lenyora, and Stone Seate. Although Motswako Culture is independently orchestrating Diphetogo, the selection of Mmabana Taung as the location acknowledges the institution’s enduring impact on South Africa’s creative landscape.
Visual artists from the North West Province are invited to submit their work. Interested individuals must provide at least six pieces of artwork, including details like dimensions, medium, and materials, along with high-resolution JPEG or PNG images, a biography, contact information, and their district or town details.
A total of ten artists will be chosen to participate in the exhibition. Those selected will be notified by 10 August 2026 and will receive contracts from Motswako Culture (Pty) Ltd regarding the exhibition. Further instructions on the transportation of the selected artworks will be provided to participants directly.
