Softfootball has reported that Atlético Madrid has initiated discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential transfer involving Cristian Romero.
Atlético is in the process of preparing a new official proposal for the Argentine defender, positioning themselves as the leading candidates for his acquisition. Negotiations are advancing well from both the club and player perspectives, with Romero reportedly interested in relocating to Madrid.
Earlier this week, Arsenal also expressed interest in the 28-year-old defender, but Tottenham is inclined to transfer Romero to a team outside of England, which benefits Atlético’s chances in the ongoing talks.
In addition, Atlético has begun conversations with Romero’s agents as they aim to expedite the agreement with Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan had earlier reached an agreement with Tottenham regarding the transfer, but the Italian club needs to facilitate player departures prior to finalizing the deal.
Inter had also been in direct communication with Romero’s representatives as part of their efforts to acquire the player; however, Atlético’s recent initiative has now positioned the Spanish club at the forefront of the pursuit.
