The grief of losing a young police officer in the line of duty has resurfaced at his family residence in Limpopo, where 29-year-old Constable Thapelo Kleinbooi Tlometsane is being honored after the tragic ambush that led to his death in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni.
Tlometsane, who served with the Gauteng Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, was fatally shot on Friday, 7 August 2026, along with his partner, Constable Siphiwe Sibeko, as they responded to reports of gunfire during their patrol.
Instead of seeking refuge, they headed straight into danger.
The officers faced intense gunfire in Reiger Park, resulting in both sustaining fatal injuries. Additionally, two civilians lost their lives in the incident.
On Sunday, Tlometsane’s family, colleagues, community members, and high-ranking police officials convened at his family home in Gedroogde village, Zebediela, near Polokwane, to conduct his official funeral.
Attendees included Deputy Police Minister Dr. Polly Boshielo and Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane.
