Kid X Discusses His Disinterest in SA Hip HopIn an interview with SA Hip Hop Mag, Kid X was queried about the South African hip-hop artists presently on his playlist. His response was straightforward: few, if any.
“I’m not. Yeah no. I’m not. I don’t listen to hip-hop much; I’ll be very frank with you. I never have, actually,” he stated. Kid X clarified that his engagement with hip-hop has not relied on frequent listening. Although he has a selection of preferred artists, he emphasized that R&B is the genre that dominates his listening habits.
“I do have, like, my selection of these are my go-to people when I play, but I think the dominant music that I play for me would be R&B,” he elaborated.
Kid X’s affinity for R&B similarly influences his artistic process. When seeking inspiration for his music, he often turns to R&B rather than other rappers.
“For me, that’s, even when I’m looking for inspiration to write a rap, I’ll listen to R&B rather than, you know, hip-hop,” he explained.
This insight sheds light on the diverse influences that shape Kid X’s unique take on hip-hop. Although hip-hop plays a vital role in his career, R&B is significant in crafting the music he appreciates and the concepts he incorporates into his own work.
He believes that inspiration can emerge from various genres. For Kid X, it’s about connecting with the music that resonates with him personally.
