Mfana Touchline Inspires Young Artists to Learn from Hip Hop Pioneers

Mfana Touchline Urges Young Artists to Seek Wisdom from Hip-Hop Legends. Mfana Touchline has emphasized the necessity for a stronger connection between seasoned hip-hop veterans and younger musicians, stating that it is essential for rising stars to be keen learners, attentive listeners, and to seize the opportunities available to them.

On The Agenda, Touchline discussed the dynamic between established hip-hop artists and newer talents, highlighting the mutual responsibility in preserving the culture. He contended that while older artists should help pave the way for upcoming talent, young rappers need to appreciate the value of mentorship and experience.

“OG hip-hop heads, they should put on the young kids,” Touchline stated. “The young kids gotta reciprocate the energy.”

The rapper recognized that youthful defiance can sometimes serve as an obstacle, especially when young artists believe they have mastered the craft and do not require advice from their predecessors.

Touchline asserted that it is crucial to understand the industry’s workings and cultural nuances, particularly when opportunities arise. He mentioned that having a platform is just one aspect; young artists must participate, engage, and acknowledge the significance of the venues and events they are involved in.

He cited his own experience at Back to the City as an illustration of missed opportunities. Touchline reflected that while artists were invited for interviews during last year’s festival, many anticipated participants were not present.

“Last year, they called us for interviews, you know what I mean? And none of the brothers were there,” he reminisced.

Mfana Touchline‘s insights stem from his own journey. He remarked that the environment which once had him participating in interviews eventually led to him taking the stage at festivals, a development he considers transformative.

“And now I’m on stage. That means a lot,” he expressed.

Touchline emphasized that instead of merely criticizing younger artists, it is essential to facilitate real opportunities for them to gain experience, which includes more performances and participation in significant hip-hop festivals.

He expressed his disappointment at the absence of BrotherKupa and Kindlynxsh at the festival, highlighting them as examples of young talent that deserves more recognition.

Ultimately, his comments underline a shared obligation within the South African hip-hop community. While established artists can help create opportunities for newcomers, the younger generation must be willing to engage with the culture and accept guidance when it is presented.

For Touchline, the future of hip-hop will not solely depend on who is given the spotlight but also on how those who receive it navigate their responsibilities and make the most of their opportunities.
