Paris Saint-Germain is working to extend Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract ahead of the 2026 Ballon d’Or announcement. The club aims to prevent what could be challenging negotiations if the Georgian winger secures the prestigious honor.
Discussions between PSG and Kvaratskhelia have been underway for several weeks and are moving positively, making an agreement seem probable soon.
The new contract being proposed would commit Kvaratskhelia to PSG until either 2030 or 2031, accompanied by a significant salary increase. This move is part of PSG’s strategy to reward the winger for his performances while ensuring his long-term presence at the club.
PSG’s eagerness to expedite negotiations is also tied to the impending Ballon d’Or announcement. The club is keen to finalize an agreement before the ceremony, aware that Kvaratskhelia’s standing could strengthen in negotiations if he is named the world’s best player.
This development follows a report from Softfootball, which noted that PSG manager Luis Enrique confidently stated that the 2026 Ballon d’Or should go to one of his players.
During a press event, Enrique expressed his belief that a player from PSG merits football’s top individual accolade, adding yet another dynamic to the competitive race for the award.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony is anticipated to occur in October, featuring several notable players among the frontrunners.
Enrique’s remarks have elicited varied responses online. Current favorites for the award include Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, and Kylian Mbappé, rather than PSG’s top candidates, leading some fans to question the club’s claim to the honor.
The discourse has also revived attention on Mbappé’s remarkable scoring record, with fans emphasizing his reliability as a goal-scorer while debating whether other contenders have performed sufficiently to surpass him.
There has also been conversation about the number of matches played by some candidates and whether their limited appearances should impact their prospects, along with broader discussions about club achievements and potential biases in voting.
For PSG, the immediate focus remains on Kvaratskhelia’s contract.
The Georgian has grown into a vital player in Enrique’s squad, and the club is looking to secure his future on better terms before the Ballon d’Or results are revealed.
If talks maintain their current momentum, PSG is optimistic that Kvaratskhelia will soon finalize an agreement extending his contract until 2030 or 2031.
The timing of these negotiations is significant for the French champions. If Kvaratskhelia eventually wins the Ballon d’Or, PSG might encounter more demanding requests in subsequent negotiations. By reaching a deal now, the club would eliminate that uncertainty and ensure they keep one of their key attackers for the long haul.
