How intentional are you about creating a platform for emerging Botswana artists, DJs and other creatives?
This is the main aim of Perfect Noise.
Botswana is home to many gifted artists seeking visibility, yet they may struggle to find their entry point. Some may feel disconnected from mainstream platforms due to their innovative or unconventional music and artistic expressions.
Our vision for Perfect Noise is to create an inclusive creative space where artists can hone their skills without the pressure of being well-known or commercially viable. A newcomer with just a few tracks online can take the same stage as an established artist, as we prioritize creativity, originality, and growth.
Throughout the last eight years, Perfect Noise has partnered with numerous artists and creatives, showcasing our dedication to nurturing talent and fostering a community rather than simply featuring already popular acts.
What goes into curating a Perfect Noise lineup?
The curation process has evolved into a dynamic element of Perfect Noise. Initially, we assembled a lineup of artists and presented it to audiences. Now, our method is more thoughtful, involving carefully crafted themes and considering how performances enhance one another, thus creating a cohesive atmosphere for each show.
While many artists submit their tracks to us, we also actively scout for emerging talent, monitoring trends online, within recording studios, and across various creative circles.
One notable example is Thuli T, a rising female rapper. She garnered attention by sharing videos of herself freestyling in her car, which caught my interest due to her confidence and talent. We invited her to perform at Perfect Noise, and since then, she has graced our stage on two occasions. She has continued to develop her craft, released her own project, and is part of the exciting new wave of women influencing Botswana’s rap landscape.
Every performance creates a unique atmosphere. If the headliner has a strong connection to traditional music, the supporting lineup will reflect that style. Conversely, our Halloween events often showcase underground and experimental hip-hop.
Our goal is to ensure that no two events feel identical. Perfect Noise aims to remain a space where audiences can uncover new artists and experience unexpected sounds.
