Before the season began, Mofokeng was associated with the Saudi Arabian team Al-Ettifaq.
Orlando Pirates has purportedly received a compelling proposal for the transfer of Relebohile Mofokeng.
As reported by US journalist Tom Bogert, Major League Soccer (MLS) club Minnesota United has made a $2 million (over R35 million) offer for the South African forward.
“Minnesota United submit bid north of $2m for South Africa int’l winger Relebohile Mofokeng to Orlando Pirates. Talks ongoing. Mofokeng, 20, big talent breaking through for club and country. Would be U-22 initiative. MNUFC long-time admirers of Mofokeng,” wrote Bogert.
If the Pirates agree to the transfer, Mofokeng will reunite with Bafana Bafana winger Bongokuhle Hlongwane at Minnesota. Hlongwane has consistently been a starter since he joined the club in 2020 from Maritzburg United, which has since been renamed Durban City.
Mofokeng had a standout season with the Pirates last year, receiving nominations for both the Footballer of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season awards at the Premier Soccer League Awards. He ultimately lost out to Lucas Ribeiro from Mamelodi Sundowns in both categories.
Despite the losses, he did earn recognition with the MTN8 Last Man Standing award and the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season accolade.
Before the season kicked off, Mofokeng was connected to Al-Ettifaq, who allegedly made an offer of around R31 million that the Pirates turned down.
