Real Madrid has announced the exit of Álvaro Arbeloa from his position as first-team coach, following a mutual agreement, as reported by Softfootball.
Through a statement on the club’s English channel, Real Madrid expressed gratitude to Arbeloa for his dedication, commitment, and professionalism during his tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu. Arbeloa, who had a prominent playing career with the club, transitioned from Castilla to the first team in January 2026 during a challenging time for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid stated:
Real Madrid C. F. and Álvaro Arbeloa have reached an agreement to end his tenure as the first-team coach. Real Madrid is deeply grateful to Álvaro Arbeloa, who throughout his career at the club, from the time he joined our academy, has always demonstrated loyalty, commitment, and professionalism. His persona is a true example of the values of our club. Real Madrid, which will always be his home, wishes Álvaro Arbeloa and his entire family the best of luck in this new chapter of their lives.
His departure follows a less than stellar 2025/26 season, where Real Madrid finished as La Liga runners-up and experienced early exits in domestic cup matches, concluding the campaign without any major trophies.
The announcement follows Arbeloa’s emotional farewell to fans, marking the end of his two-decade association with the club after the final match of the season against Athletic Club.

In response, Real Madrid has begun a new chapter by appointing José Mourinho as head coach after activating his €15 million release clause.

The Portuguese manager is set to return to the Bernabéu on a three-year deal, marking the start of his second tenure shortly after the re-election of Florentino Pérez as club president.
